At First United Methodist Church of Brownsville, service is part of who we are. Whether it’s making sandwiches, knitting for someone going through a hard time, encouraging a child, or helping a neighbor with home repairs— there’s a place for you to jump in and serve.

Meal & Care Ministries

Sandwich Ministry
Volunteers gather at 9:30 AM every morning in the Fellowship Hall kitchen to make 200 sandwiches for Good Neighbor Settlement House. It’s a simple, hands-on way to care for our neighbors in need—and a great way to start your day in community.

La Posada Meal Ministry
On the 4th Wednesday of each month, we prepare and serve dinner at Good Neighbor Settlement House. Volunteers help cook, serve, and show hospitality to all who come. This is a great one-time or once-a-month service opportunity.

Martin Elementary Partnership

We’ve partnered with Martin Elementary to support students and staff throughout the school year. You can help by:

Delivering monthly treats to teachers and staff
Helping with reading and classroom activities
Supporting the 2nd grade Christmas party with gifts and celebration

Volunteers must complete a background check through the school district.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

This warm and welcoming group meets on Wednesdays from 3:00–4:30 PM in the Welcome Center to create shawls, baby blankets, and lap throws for those in need of comfort and prayer. If you’re new to knitting or crocheting, the group is happy to teach you.

Carpenter’s Hands

Our men’s group meets on the 3rd Saturday of each month at 8:00 AM in Fellowship Hall for breakfast and fellowship, then heads out to do minor home repairs for members of the community.
