Greetings! I am Pastor David. I am thankful to be the pastor here at FUMC Brownsville. My wife Irma and I moved here in the summer of 2024, and we are glad to be returning to the Rio Grande Valley. Both my parents were from Mexico, but I was born in the valley and raised in various South Texas cities since my dad was also a Methodist pastor, but I’ve called McAllen my “hometown” for many years now. I went to high school in Rio Grande City and college at the formerly Pan American University (today UTRGV). In college, I majored in Spanish and minored in English.
In 1996, I married the love of my life, my beautiful wife, Irma. We married in Mexico but settled in McAllen. We have 4 wonderful kids — Aimee (27), David Jr. (25), Selena (23), and Ashlee (21). On December 3, 2021, my wife and I became grandparents for the first time, to Anayeli, who is the love, pride, and joy of our lives! Then, on February 5, 2024, we became grandparents for second time to David Daniel III.
In 1998, after feeling the call to ministry, we moved to Kentucky where I complete my Master’s of Divinity graduate degree at Asbury Theological Seminary. While there, I was a student pastor and began the first Methodist Hispanic community of faith. Upon graduation, our first appointment was in Lubbock, Texas, and we have also served churches in Dallas, Albuquerque, NM, Edinburg, San Antonio, Universal City, and now, Brownsville.
We are humbled to be called by God to do kingdom work, and we strive to wholeheartedly serve and glorify God in all we do. I have a passion to minister to the church, but I also have a passion for the least, the last, and the lost, and believe that the church’s most important mission is beyond the four walls of the church.
We look forward to serve alongside God’s people here at First UMC Brownsville and see what amazing things He can do when we serve and work together for his honor and glory, and in the power of the Holy Spirit.
